Choosing the right casting method is crucial for casting metal products and requires comprehensive consideration of a number of factors, which are specifically analyzed below:
Product structure and shape
Complexity: for complex shapes, especially with complex internal cavities of metal products, such as engine blocks, impellers, etc., usually using sand casting or investment casting. Sand casting can form the inner cavity by making complex sand core, the cost is relatively low; investment casting can obtain higher precision and surface quality, suitable for more complex and higher precision requirements of the parts.
Size: large metal products, such as large machine tool beds, ship propellers, etc., generally use sand casting or water glass sand casting, these methods can be adapted to the production of large-size castings, and the cost is relatively low. Small precision parts, such as watch parts, aero-engine blades, etc., is suitable for the use of investment casting or pressure casting, can ensure the accuracy and surface quality of the parts.
Thin wall degree: for thin-walled metal products, you need to choose to be able to quickly fill the casting method, such as pressure casting, centrifugal casting, etc.. Pressure casting under high pressure will be injected into the cavity at high speed metal liquid, can better fill the thin-walled parts; centrifugal casting using centrifugal force to make the liquid metal uniformly distributed in the cavity wall, is also suitable for the production of thin-walled tubular or ring-shaped parts.
Product performance requirements
Mechanical properties: If the mechanical properties of metal products require high, such as gears, crankshafts, etc. to withstand larger loads, can be forged or precision casting methods. Forging can make the metal organization dense, improve strength and toughness; precision casting such as investment casting, pressure casting, etc., can obtain better internal quality and mechanical properties, and can accurately control the size and shape of the parts.
Density requirements: for the requirements of high airtightness, watertight castings, such as engine blocks, hydraulic components, etc., pressure casting, centrifugal casting or metal casting is a better choice. These methods can make the metal liquid in the pressure or centrifugal force under the action of filling, reduce porosity, shrinkage and other defects, improve the denseness of the castings.
